Four Dead in Apac as A Canoes Journey Ends in A Disaster
APAC,(UG)-Four people have been confirmed dead while three others survived when a canoe in which they were traveling in Apac district capsized.
The deceased who were crossing from Arocha swamp to the Ibuje Sub-County have been identified as one-year-old Emmanuel Ongora, Jackline Acio, 8, Asante Odongo, 12, and Patrick Ebong, 24.
The Apac Resident District Commissioner, George Abudul, in a statement last evening also identified the survivors as Winnie Anyango, 22, Isaac Oula, 3, and Walter Ogwal – the canoe operator.
According to Abudul, the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, at about 5pm while the victims were traveling from Alworoceng village to Amii-Amilo parish in Ibuje, adding that the group opted to use a canoe because the road connecting the two villages was flooded.
Abudul stated that all the four bodies were retrieved by the community members and handed over to the relatives for decent burial. He urged all road users to carefully plan their routes while avoiding heavily flooded and cut-off roads which might lead to accidents and fatalities.
