Mbarara Police Have Detained Suspected City Criminals As Christmas Festivities Draws Closer
MBARARA,(UG)-Police in Mbarara City are holding about 41 suspected criminals who have been terrorising city residents.
According to the Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Samson Kasasira, the suspects were yesterday arrested in an intelligence-led operation in the areas of Kakoba, Lubiri and High Street.
Kasasira told our reporter today that the suspects who include 25 men, 11 juveniles and five women, were found in possession of marijuana and house-breaking tools. He noted that Police have been receiving many complaints from the public and the business community over increased cases of housebreaking, waylaying and snatching of people’s bags and other valuables along the city streets, and through intelligence, they managed to arrest some of those suspected to have been terrorising the city.
According to Kasasira, the suspects are currently in detention at Mbarara Central Police Station and will appear in court after investigations are complete, adding that police have intensified operations against criminals ahead of the festive season when crime rates tend to increase.
He, however, cautioned members of the public to remain vigilant, and cooperate with police and local authorities by reporting any suspected criminal element.
